Book DiscussionFebruary 2nd, 2002 In the second discussion scheduled for February 2 by MAPP, we are exploring the book, Blood Brothers, suggested by a local reader who was preparing for a trip to the Holy Land and by the Manchester District Library Book Discussion Group who highly recommend it. We are expecting that it will broaden our view of the world. It is written by Elias Chacour, a champion of the Arab-Israeli peace process. Chacour's book, "Blood Brothers", gives a very personal look at the history and drama surrounding the Palestinian Christian people. Chacour is a Palestinian Christian Israeli citizen who strives to reconcile Arab and Jew through peaceful efforts and mutual understanding. He has created a school in Palestine where everyone can plan for the future and where females can get an education. His memoir is a true life account, with historical research, written in an easy touching style and is free of political stereotypes. Fr. Elias Chacour beins his narrative in the late forties, when he is about six years old. He lives with his very devote Christian family in a small village in Palestine, among Jews, Druzes and Moslems, where his father planted and tends his orchard. The changes that take place when Palestine is partitioned off is an honest account of the history and drama surrounding the Palestinian/Israeli people. Please join us for this enlightening discussion. We also welcome recommendations about other books you have read about the conflict in the Middle East. This particular book is hard to find but the Manchester District Library will have copies of "Blood Brothers" available. If you have a copy, please consider loaning it to the library. The Manchester Area People for Peace invites anyone to participate in the book discussions. The discussion will be on Sunday, February 2, at 3 PM. The location is the Blacksmith Shop on East Main St. |
